Thank you for your interest in shaping the future of active transport in our region.
Council has prepared a Draft Active Transport Plan, informed by the insights and perceptions shared by our community during the first round of consultation held from 20 May to 17 June 2024.
During this consultation, our community told us:
- Road safety concerns exist regarding walking and riding around the region
- Personal safety is a barrier to embracing active transport
- Many people want a more extensive active transport network to make walking, riding and wheeling easier
- There is a need for better connections to local destinations
- Missing links in the network need to be filled to improve connectivity
- Reducing conflict between different path users and with vehicles is important
- Safer crossing locations and lower vehicle speed limits are needed
- Improved maintenance of the existing path network is required
- Active transport options should be better integrated with public transport
- Health, wellbeing and sustainability are key motivators for choosing active transport.
This feedback has shaped the Draft Active Transport Plan and the three priority areas for action:
- Networks and infrastructure
- Supporting activities
- Promote, influence and encourage
Community engagement
Council now wishes to check with our community that these priorities and associated actions are right and whether we’ve missed anything.
We invite you to review the Draft Active Transport Plan and provide your feedback by completing the short online survey.
You can provide feedback between 9am Tuesday, 7 October and 5pm Monday, 3 November 2025.
Your input will help Council to understand:
- If we’ve got the draft plan right
- If the actions are on the right track and they are aligned to community need
- How you can help us achieve our vision to create a liveable, healthy, safe and connected Sunshine Coast
- Your thoughts and priorities for improving the riding and walking network.
Next steps
All feedback received during this consultation period will be considered by Council and used to inform a final version of the Draft Active Transport Plan. The revised Draft Active Transport Plan will be presented to Council for consideration and adoption at an upcoming Ordinary Meeting.
Visit the Have your Say Sunshine Coast project page for more information and to share your thoughts.
