There has been one focus group discussion between the Kabi Kabi peoples, and the Australian Rock-Climbing Association held on site in December 2024. The ACAQ requested this meeting with the Kabi Kabi to gain a better understanding of the Kabi Kabi people’s aspirations and values, and to discuss any issues relating to the rock-climbing activities that are currently occurring on Mt Ninderry.
There will be additional focus group discussions in the coming year once there is more information to share and consult on.
Regarding further technical investigations we have a few actions to proceed with before the end of the financial year as follows:
- Traffic analysis and road use survey of surrounding roads including Ocean vista Dr; Ninderry Rd; Yandina Coolum Rd; Waterfall Rd and Collins Rd.
- Ground truthing of proposed trail alignment.
- Mount Ninderry Environment Reserve Interpretation plan – part 1. Compilation of cultural stories. – this will likely extend into the next financial year as an ongoing project.
Once we have finalised the contracts for the technical reports, we can initiate the focus group discussions and update the timeline.
