Thirty two people attended YADCA’s June forum to hear Grantley Switzer (SCC Program Lead Brisbane 2032) talk about planning for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032. It was an informative presentation which was well received by those in attendance.
Grantley went into some detail about the Mountain Bike Facility which will be constructed at 348 Yandina Bli Bli Road adjacent to Parklands Conservation Park. The planned 5 km track will have steep drop offs which provide views across the Maroochy River to Mt Ninderry.
The construction will be funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments, however Council bought the 4 properties and will retain ownership of the facility which connects to the 40 kms of trails in Parklands Conservation Park. The intention is to use the facility as a free, nature based precinct providing parking, a cafe, pump track and catering for activities like mountain biking, park run and orienteering.
The Mountain Bike Facility is expected to be completed and in use by early 2030.
Yandina is now shown on the Sunshine Coast 2032 infrastructure plan. Potential access issues have been identified including the one lane bridge over Caboolture Creek, the condition and shoulder width of Yandina Bli Bli Road and access off the Bruce Highway at the Vee.
Active transport and park and ride opportunities are being investigated.
On the 2 days of Olympic competition, 350 buses will be used to transport, competitors, officials and spectators to the site.
Grantley followed up with both TMR and Marty Hunt MP in respect to the one lane bridge over Caboolture Creek. He stressed that there was considerable interest in this issue on Monday night, focusing on the role that this road will play during Games time but more importantly, the issues that are encountered there on a daily basis.
The next YADCA meeting / forum will be on Monday 13 July 2026. Cr David Law and MP Marty Hunt will be in attendance.
