The Yandina and District Community Association (YADCA) has had a busy and interesting year. In accordance with YADCA’s objectives, we have provided accurate information to our members and the broader community, held informative forums and represented community interests to all levels of government.
Guest speakers have included:
- The officer in charge of Nambour Police Station.
- Andrew Cadash from Halcyon Yandina.
- Jen Corsbie from the National Fire Ant Eradication Program.
- Local historian and YADCA member, Audienne Blyth, speaking on Yandina’s past, present and future.
- Grantley Switzer, SCRC Program Lead for the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.
- Stephen Patey and James Lillie, SCRC Strategic Planning Manager and Senior Planner.
Cr David Law and Marty Hunt MP have attended meetings periodically. Members have raised topics as diverse as power supply issues, the future of Yandina’s heritage bridges, parking concerns, bus routes, active transport upgrades including safe, inclusive access across the South Maroochy River, the single lane Caboolture Creek Bridge on Yandina Bli Bli Road and budget allocations.
The management committee used members’ input to prepare a submission to the SCRC’s Draft Planning Scheme. In March we met with Deputy Premier, Jarrod Bleijie, to discuss the Yandina SEQ Development Area identified on Shaping SEQ 2023, and in June the Unity Water executive provided a briefing on the proposed Bioresource Recovery Facility. Keith has represented YADCA at meetings of OSCAR and the Nambour to Coolum trail, along with David. We have also been guests at Business Yandina meetings and the Yandina Historical Society and have strengthened our connections with other local groups.
This month my time has been devoted to following and communicating residents’ concerns about the notification of a complete road closure around Ninderry and North Arm for the 2026 AusCycle Junior and Masters Road National Championships scheduled from the 17 to 20 September. The situation has been resolved however competitors are disappointed that the Yandina circuit, which they have spent months training for, will not be used.
YADCA’s membership and Facebook following have grown however we need to expand our volunteer base. I am indebted to the support of Libbie, Keith, and Marg who have been on the management committee, and Liz, Ian and Sue who have quietly managed operations in the background. I’d also like to thank those members who have provided information and feedback on various topics. We would welcome more offers to help research topics, draft letters, suggest guest speakers, and provide content for Facebook. I do thank you all for attending meetings and supporting YADCA in whatever way you can. Your voice matters.
