CALL FOR YANDINA SKATE PARK UPGRADE

The current Yandina skate park.

YADCA supports the call to upgrade the popular skate park in Yandina. Local resident, Ryan Lunney, has gathered 733 signatures on a petition calling for a make over of the skate park. Cr Law will present the petition to Council on Thursday 14 October 2021.

Ryan said “the current skate park is aged, worn with cracking concrete and an old school design that is struggling to provide for the local demand. We need a new one.”

The petition states that “the Sunshine Coast has some very real talent when it comes to Surfing and Skating – we must ensure we have the platforms to support the demand of growing board sports”.

The park is more than 20 years old. It has been 10 years since it received any real attention. It is heavily used by people of all ages but especially by primary school aged children.

Yandina has witnessed phenomenal growth in the past 4 years and there are still more than 400 dwellings in the planning application or construction stage in Yandina. That is an additional 1000 to 1500 people, YADCA President Marie Reeve said. We need public facilities to match this growth.

The community has also witnessed rapid growth in the industrial estates to the east and south of town. Council has benefited from the infrastructure fees all this development has brought and Marie said YADCA would like to see some of this income spent on infrastructure upgrades in Yandina.
